According to The London Evening Standard, Liverpool have emerged as real contenders for Virgil Van Dijk – potentially beating Chelsea to his signature.
The Dutch defender has been one of the stars of the season and would surely have continued that form into the business end for Southampton had he not suffered a lengthy injury.
He should be back soon enough, though, but how long he remains on the south coast remains to be seen with some of the biggest clubs in the country looking at him.
And, the report believes, the Reds are now well in the race for the potentially £50m man, as we look to gazump Chelsea.
It would be a huge outlay from the club, of course, but if he helps tighten up our defence, as we think he would, we think he would be worth it.
