As per The Liverpool Echo’s transfer blog yesterday (08:00,) Gael Clichy will not apparently join the Reds this summer.
The French defender is out of contract this month at Manchester City and will be free to leave and look for a new club for the 2017/18 season.
Plenty, then, had been suggesting that we were going to sign him, too, but it seems as though that is actually wide of the mark.
Indeed, whilst Jurgen Klopp is looking for a new full-back – we surely need one – he is not considering the former Arsenal man as a potential option.
In the long run, then, we’re quite pleased to be honest as, in the nicest possible way, Clichy isn’t the player he once was and is surely only going to decline hereafter.
