According to DW Sports – via The Liverpool Echo – Liverpool are interested in Benedikt Howedes from Schalke as the transfer window approaches its final week.
The German international has got bags and bags of experience to bring to the table and would surely offer a great deal to the Reds for this season.
Indeed, it’s obvious that the Reds need a new centre-half but with Southampton playing serious hardball over Virgil van Dijk, it would make sense to see a contingency plan come into play.
And signing Howedes could be a very wise move indeed with him likely to not cost that much whilst he also knows how to play alongside Joel Matip from their days at Schalke.
Of course, though, it remains to be seen exactly what happens and with just over a week to go a decision will be needed soon.
