Writing in his regular Daily Mail column, former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp has said that improvement is needed from our attack after our latest draw with Burnley at Anfield.

The Reds came into the game against the Clarets needing to get back to winning ways but we all knew that they would make it hard for us – especially given their away form this season.

For sure, then, the same old pattern seemed to play out as shot upon shout rained in on the Burnley goal but with only one finding the net – Mo Salah’s effort on the turn in the first half.

And, despite our defence getting torn to shreds by pundits this season, it was our attack that came into question from the former Liverpool skipper.

He said:

“Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho and Mo Salah are lovely footballers whose intricate play can be scintillating.

“They share the goals around the team. You are not going to get a golden boot contender from this side. But against teams like Burnley who defend resolutely, Liverpool need a ruthless goalscorer to put the game to bed. Think of Ian Rush, Robbie Fowler and Michael Owen.”

Redknapp, then, wants to see a more focal point to our attack but it seems as though that is not Jurgen Klopp’s style.
