Liverpool’s vice-captain, James Milner spoke to Dugout.com and chose the best XI which comprises of the players that he played with or against.

And the Englishman chose another English great, Steven Gerrard, who happened to be the only former Liverpool player in Milner’s Ultimate XI.

James Milner never played with Steven Gerrard for Liverpool, as Gerrard left the Anfield outfit during the summer of 2014-15, while Milner arrived just weeks later during the same window.

However, the duo played against each other on many instances, when Manchester City met Liverpool, with Milner formerly being a prominent name in City’s starting XI. The pair were international teammates as well, which gives Milner the credibility to comment on the greatness of the Anfield legend.

Milner spoke to Dugout.com and chose Gerrard at the centre of the team.

“Easy one,” as Milner explained his choice. “I remember the first time in the England squad with him, he completely ran the training session because of his ability.

“An all-round player, unbelievable. Don’t need to say too much about Stevie, everyone knows how good he was.”

Milner partners Gerrard in midfield with two Spanish maestros, namely David Silva of Manchester City, and Andres Iniesta of Barcelona.

This shows Milner’s opinion of Gerrard’s quality, and the rest of his side was also impressive, as he partnered his star midfield with Lionel Messi, Alan Shearer and Sergio Aguero upfront.

Milner’s Ultimate XI: Joe Hart; Dani Alves, Jonathan Woodgate, Vincent Kompany, Ashley Cole; Steven Gerrard, David Silva, Andres Iniesta; Lionel Messi, Alan Shearer, Sergio Aguero.
