The Emre Can contract situation really is starting to grate now and if it isn’t sorted soon we’ll be losing the midfielder.

The German international who signed for Liverpool in 2014 after the Reds activated his £9.75 million (€12 million) is yet to put pen to paper on an extension and with his current deal ends in June 2018, which is just a little more than six months from now.

And by January one when the winter transfer window opens, he will be free to sign a pre-contract with any club outside the Premier league which is a situation Liverpool and especially Jurgen Klopp will want to avoid.

Weighing things up, we’d like to see the German international stay with the Reds over the seasons to come as he gets towards his prime years but that is looking up in the air right now.

His current deal expires in the summer and with just the six months left on his deal at the moment, this January window could see some bids come in.

It’s thought the Reds would rather lose him for free in summer and try and use the time to strike a deal and that would make even more sense when you consider Calciomercato’s report.

Although it must be said that not letting him go next month could be dangerous especially if Liverpool fail to make top four in the Premier League. The Reds have not been so consistent this season and it won’t be a surprise if we miss a place in the top four, which could make our chance of compelling Emre Can to sign a new contract in the summer even much more difficult.

They are suggesting Juventus will bid just over € 10m (£8.08m) to try and sign the player in a deal that would see us lose out financially for sure.

Things aren’t looking good at the moment, then, and we’d hope that we can get something over the line soon.
