According to Catalan Sports newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Marco Asensio was subject of a bid from Liverpool in last summer’s transfer window.
We’ll be honest, we did roll our eyes at this one when we read about it with an apparent bid of €150 million being swiftly turned down by Real Madrid for the player after we moved for him.
We have several questions of course, but most of all we wonder where that kind of money came from given we hadn’t sold Philippe Coutinho at that point.
We also have our doubts that the Reds would go for player who looks a class act but is yet to really start setting the place regularly – something such a fee would command.
Indeed, this season for Real has been a pretty woeful one, and so maybe he’ll be available for a tad cheaper (a lot) in this summer’s market.
