Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has set his sights on bolstering his defensive lines after assembling one of the deadliest strike forces in Europe, as the Reds boast incredible talent in the form of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

The German boss already made his first piece of major defensive movement in January, signing Virgil Van Dijk from Southampton for a club-record fee of £75m, and is reportedly keen on partnering the Dutch international with his compatriot Stefan De Vrij.

However, Italian outlet Calcio Mercato state Liverpool and other interested parties, including Manchester United, are set to miss out on the race for De Vrij’s services as Inter Milan have already agreed a deal for the Dutchman.

26-year-old De Vrij sees his contract with Lazio expire this summer, making him available for free, but neither of the Premier League giants have managed to use that to their advantage- despite being able to discuss pre-contractual agreements with him since the turn of the year.

As a result, Inter Milan have swooped and are said to be adding the experienced defender to their ranks at the end of the season.
