Liverpool are faced with the prospect of having a big hole to fill in their midfield this summer, as German international Emre Can looks increasingly likely to leave on a free transfer.

The Reds have begun to identify potential replacements in the market and have now received a boost in the chase for one target who is already in the Premier League; Watford’s Abdoulaye Doucoure.

The Daily Mirror states that Watford’s battle to remain financially strong could mean that £40m-rated Doucoure leaves Vicarage Road this summer, in news that will put Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham on-alert.

25-year-old Doucoure has caught the eye for the Hornets this season, scoring seven Premier League goals and providing two assists- which has caught the eye of a number of England’s heavy hitters in the transfer market.

Liverpool have money to spend following the sale of Philippe Coutinho in January but may face a bidding war alongside some of their Premier League rivals in the market.
