Liverpool have boasted one of the most incredible attacking lines in European football this season but their depth could have been considerably better, as an agent has revealed a former client was close to a move to Anfield.

Dimitry Seluk, former agent of Arsenal ace Henrikh Mkhitaryan, told These Football Times that the Armenia international came extremely close to joining Liverpool before the pair parted ways.

This came during the 29-year-old’s time at Metalurh Donetsk as a youngster, where a disagreement with the club’s ex-owner Oleg Mkrtchyan led to a breakdown in a transfer to Liverpool- with Mkhitaryan later going on to represent Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United before moving to the Emirates Stadium in January.

“Obviously, by that time, Mkhitaryan had already become a well-known player, and when Borussia Dortmund offered Shakhtar €27million for Henrikh, suddenly Raiola was all over him.”

“Although I had already talked to Liverpool who were also interested in Mkhitaryan and wanted to sign him. If Mkrtchyan hadn’t lied to me and we hadn’t parted ways with Henrikh, he would have been a Liverpool player.”

Mkhitaryan moved to Dortmund in 2013, where he worked under Jurgen Klopp, before spending two-years with Manchester United after switching to the Premier League in 2016.
