Liverpool face a massive week ahead of them as they welcome Manchester City to Anfield in an all-English Champions League quarter-final, before tackling Everton in a Premier League Merseyside derby this weekend.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have caught the eye this season but know there is work to do next year to knock Pep Guardiola’s Citizens off their perch at the top of the table and midfield recruitment is set to be key, with German international Emre Can poised to leave on a free transfer.

Whilst fans will be gutted to lose one experienced central midfielder in a bargain deal, they could benefit from a similar piece of business in an incoming aspect- as Max Meyer looks set to leave Schalke for a mere compensation fee.

The Sun, claiming the German international could be available for as little as £8m, quote club director Christian Heidel as saying:

“At the moment we can and must expect that Max leaves the club in the summer. Everything suggests that. There is no offer from us and no wish from Max to have a conversation again.”

However, Liverpool face competition in the market from Premier League rivals Arsenal and German outlet Bild claim the Gunners lead the chase.
