Liverpool are set for a busy summer as the Champions League semi-finalists seek to topple Manchester City from their Premier League perch next season, leading Jurgen Klopp to chase a number of targets in the market.

FC Koln’s Germany international Jonas Hector has regularly been linked with a move to Anfield but, despite the club’s imminent relegation from the Bundesliga, the 27-year-old has signed a new five-year contract.

Hector, also linked with a move to Juventus in the close season, has been with Koln since 2010, starting with the reserves, and was part of the Germany side that won the Confederations Cup in Russia last summer.

Boasting 36 caps for his national side, Hector is poised to represent Joachim Lowe’s side at the World Cup this summer but his continued commitment to the struggling Koln side means any side chasing his services at the end of the season may be disappointed.

Speaking about his renewed deal, Hector said:

“It would have been no problem for me to switch to another club after this season, but it would not have felt right. We had many talks in the past few weeks and I had enough time to think about it. The decision for me is clear: I belong to FC and I want to go into the new season with this team and with these fans.”
