Liverpool are seeking a wealth of improvements to their side this summer as they prepare to try to topple Manchester City from their Premier League perch next season but the fight with the Citizens is far from over.

The Reds’ battle with their top-flight rivals looks set to expand into the transfer market, as The Sun states Pep Guardiola’s side are looking to beat Liverpool in the chase for Monaco’s France international Thomas Lemar.

Boasting ten caps for his nation, Lemar first emerged as a target for Jurgen Klopp following the sale of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona and Liverpool have been attributed with an interest ever since, alongside Arsenal.

However, the emergence of Manchester City on the market could present the Reds with an issue as Guardiola has no issues with spending an immense fee on his services, with TransferMarkt valuing the 22-year-old at £58.5m.

Monaco are ready to command a much higher fee for his services though, potentially in excess of £100m, which could see Lemar become the most expensive player in Premier League history.
