Atletico Madrid have entered the running for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes, according to A Bola.

The Portuguese newspaper say it is now a three club battle for the playmaker with Liverpool and Tottenham also keen on the 23 year old.

Fernandes has had a superb season following his transfer from Sampdoria in the summer. The attacking midfielder has racked up 14 goals and provided 20 assists in 50 matches so far this campaign.

He was given his first senior cap by Portugal in November, coming on as a substitute in the 3-0 friendly win against Saudi Arabia.

It has been a dramatic rise for a player who made very little impact during his time in Italy. He was a first team regular for Sampdoria last season but made just three assists, despite making 35 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A side.

Prior to that, he spent three years at Udinese where he made 95 appearances, but scored just 11 times and contributed 13 assists.
