Liverpool have been preparing for the loss of Germany international Emre Can for months, with it clear he does not want to sign a new contract at Anfield, and it seems the drawn out saga could be coming to a close.

La Gazzetta dello Sport claim Italian giants Juventus, who have long been named as the favourites to secure the services of the 24-year-old, have made a crucial breakthrough in negotiations after agreeing to pay Can’s agents a significant sum of cash.

The Reds already have a replacement for Can lined-up, having agreed a deal with RB Leipzig to bring Naby Keita to Anfield at the end of the season, but Klopp is likely to further bolster his options in the middle of the park.

Adam Lallana and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have both suffered long-term injury issues this season, leaving Liverpool short of numbers in midfield, and the departure of Can will certainly not help matters – but it has been coming.
