Simon Mignolet issued his verdict on Sadio Mane as he analysed some of his teammates ahead of Liverpool’s meeting with Real Madrid in the Champions League.

The Reds goalkeeper provided the Liverpool Echo with his opinion on several key members of Jurgen Klopp’s side ahead of the huge match on Saturday and shared that Mane was a player that usually left him questioning why.

Mignolet also revealed that the attacker usually receives difficult treatment from defenders in his opinion, especially compared to Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah, but was still able to endure that in order to be an important player for the club.

“Sadio is the one who probably gets the most difficult treatment from defenders,” Mignolet wrote for the local newspaper.

“Sometimes you watch him and think ‘why did you do that’? Why did you slow the game?’

“Then he has that burst of acceleration when the ball is dead to go past defenders, that’s so difficult to defend.

“They think they’re in a good place and then suddenly Sadio is gone.

“He’s been very important in a different way to Mo and Roberto I would say. Simply because he provides more and offers more to the other players rather than to himself. He’s very selfless.”

OPINION

Hearing Mignolet’s insight into his teammates is certainly interesting with his verdict on Mane being the pick of the bunch. The goalkeeper’s assessment of the 26-year-old attacker highlights his glowing ability and fantastic attitude. If a player like Mignolet, who has played 245 times in the Premier League during his career, is unable to work out what Mane is about to do, it shows how uniquely talented the attacker is. Mane has been rewarded with his efforts this season, grabbing an impressive 19 goals across 43 outings and would garner even more praise if it wasn’t for Mohamed Salah’s presence. However there are enough people aware of the good job Mane is doing for his side and long may it continue, as the 26-year-old will help bring success to Anfield in the form of trophies. The attacker could even start that trend by helping his side overcome Real Madrid in the Champions League final on Saturday as he has the ability to be a match winner for Klopp’s team.
