If you can’t beat them, join them. Or copy them, in the case of Rangers.

The Light Blues have already made a few moves of note in the summer transfer window that has barely even opened yet.

Midfielder Scott Arfield and goalkeeper Allan McGregor are on board, signed up on free transfers as Rangers begin yet another mass overhaul of a squad that has failed to deliver.

Further new arrivals are on the way as Steven Gerrard makes use of his standing, influence and contacts to recruit players that no other Rangers manager would have had a hope of getting.

The Scottish Sun claim the Glasgow giants are confident of wrapping up the loan signing of Liverpool forward Harry Wilson by the time Gerrard officially takes over on 1 June.

Some have mistakenly painted the 21-year-old as a striker, or even a playmaker operating from deep.

In truth, he is neither. The imminent Rangers arrival is a right-sided forward who cuts in from the flank on his favoured left foot to rip open defences.

His style will remind supporters not only of Wilson’s brilliant senior teammate Mohamed Salah and the likes of Lionel Messi, Arjen Robben and Gareth Bale, but also a player who has had great success at Celtic in the last two-and-a-half years.

Patrick Roberts said his goodbyes to Hoops fans at the weekend to return to parent club Manchester City after making a huge impact for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

His incisive contributions from the right, running at defenders with pace and skill to create and score goals, made him a huge favourite with supporters.

Rangers have taken a leaf out of their neighbours’ books by going all out to land in-demand Wilson, whose record at Hull on loan in the second half of last season demonstrated his skill-set.

The rising star could do for the Gers what Roberts did so well for Celtic.
