Liverpool chairman Tom Werner promised to sign players who would make the club even more successful in order to compete for trophies next season.

The Reds chief made the transfer vow ahead of his side taking on Real Madrid in the Champions League final on Saturday evening and even revealed what he thought would attract the best players to Anfield.

Werner claimed that Jurgen Klopp’s presence would see top talent arrive at the Reds and this made him feel positive about the future.

“I am excited to see Naby Keita join the club this summer and I can only promise our supporters that we will continue to improve the squad,” said Werner, in an interview with the Liverpool Echo.

“Whatever happens on Saturday night, we will ensure we have a strong squad to compete for trophies next season which will have even more depth.

“We will make decisions that will improve the team and we will sign players who make us even more successful.”

“We always read about how players have a dream to play for one of the great Spanish clubs, under Jurgen’s leadership, top players want to come to Liverpool.

“I am very positive about our future because Jurgen attracts the best players.”

OPINION

Werner has certainly issued his transfer promise at an interesting time with the Reds potentially about to lift the Champions League. The businessman claims that business will be conducted upon either outcome and that is an enticing statement to make. If the Reds win the illustrious European tournament then it’s worrying for their opponents that their team will only get better. It’s also fascinating, and correct, that Werner believes Klopp’s presence has players dreaming of Anfield as it shows how much he values the current first-team boss. It also shows that the Reds have a non-financial related way of ensuring that top talent arrives at the club. Klopp is appreciated for all the work he has done on the field with his side, improving stars such as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, but little is often said about the work he does behind the scenes. Clearly Werner wanted to draw attention to the Reds’ manager influence and he has done that in the best possible way.
