Rangers are set to suffer the crushing blow of missing out on signing Liverpool winger Harry Wilson on loan, according to Football Insider.

The reliable site claim the Glasgow giants’ new manager Steven Gerrard had hoped to bring the 21-year-old Wales international from Anfield on a season-long loan.

Football Insider report that Wilson has rejected the chance of a move to Ibrox as they have twice snubbed the chance to sign him in the past and he has interest from eight Championship clubs.

OPINION

Losing out in the race to sign Wilson is a massive blow to Rangers and new boss Gerrard, who had hoped his influence and standing at Anfield might swing the loan capture his club’s way. It appears that will not now be the case, despite reports in Scotland that the capture of the rising star was in line to be done this week. Wilson is a player who has his pick of the clubs after making rapid strides in the second half of the recently-completed domestic season. He scored seven goals in 13 matches while on loan at Hull and demonstrated the match-winning talent that has made him a player capable of establishing himself in the Liverpool first team in the years to come. A left footer who cuts in from the right flank a la Mohamed Salah, Wilson is a brilliant young player who should run amok at the club lucky enough to convince him to join them in 2018-19. That is unlikely to now be Rangers, who must return to the drawing board.
