Liverpool have reportedly cancelled their planned pre-season friendly against Borussia Monchengladbach due to the club’s pursuit of Rhian Brewster – and fans on Twitter have delivered mixed verdicts.
The Times’ Merseyside correspondent Paul Joyce reported on his personal Twitter account on Saturday evening that the 7 August match at Anfield is now off amid Monchengladbach’s bid to sign the striker, 18, this summer.
Joyce reports that Liverpool officials have also written to the Bundesliga side to express their anger at their “conduct in pursuing” Brewster.

The double transfer development has inspired a rash of reactions on social media from supporters of not only Liverpool, but also rival Premier League and even German clubs.
Fans of the Merseyside giants have praised their club for standing up for their rights and for taking a strong stand against the tapping-up of one of the outstanding young talents in British football.
However, supporters of other clubs have pointed out the clear hypocrisy of the Champions league finalists, who had to pull out of their bid to sign Virgil van Dijk from Southampton last summer after publicly admitting they had behaved inappropriately behind the scenes.
Live 4 Liverpool has rounded up some of the best tweets:
