Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles is reportedly a summer transfer target for Liverpool – and the club’s supporters on Twitter have gone wild about the potential signing.
The Independent reports that the 24-year-old Newcastle captain is on a two-man shortlist alongside Burnley’s James Tarkowski for a new centre-back.
It is understood that Jurgen Klopp’s side plan to move for just one of them and there is much excitement on social media from Reds supporters about the Magpies enforcer.
Lascelles has enjoyed a stunning season at St James’ Park and was integral in keeping his side in the Premier League.
The no-nonsense defender missed out on a spot in England’s World Cup squad, but many feel he was unfortunate to miss out.
He is already showing immense leadership qualities at such a young age at Newcastle and is an ever-present in Rafael Benitez’s side, scoring three goals in 35 appearances this season.
Liverpool fans on social media have suggested that he could make the step up at Anfield and see him as a potential partner for Virgil van Dijk in the heart of defence.
One supporter suggested that he is worth around £30million and it remains to be seen if Newcastle would be willing to part ways with their talisman.

Tarkowski stats is better than Lascelles but you have to understand why Tarkowski was better, because he played in defensive organization that help him to better in the stats, but Lascelles played in open organization and he succeeded there.
