Liverpool fans have gone into meltdown on Twitter at reports that the club are closing in on the signing of Lyon attacker Nabil Fekir.

French television station Canal+ stated live on air on Saturday, as cited by the Daily Express, that the Merseysiders are set to spend up to £60million on the France international this summer and that a deal is “99 per cent” complete.

Fekir has had an outstanding season for Lyon, where he plays as an attacking midfielder in a mainly central role, similarly to where Philippe Coutinho was stationed before his mid-season transfer to Barcelona.

The 10-times France international has scored 23 goals and supplied eight assists from 40 matches for the French club this season, with 18 of his goals coming in Ligue 1 fixtures.

Since joining Lyon in 2011, Fekir has netted 57 times and supplied 37 assists from 153 matches in all competitions.

Fekir, who stands at 5ft 7in (source: Transfermarkt) appeared to say goodbye to Lyon fans in the aftermath of their final match of the season on Saturday night, which was a 3-2 Ligue 1 win over Nice.

Liverpool fans are hugely excited at the possibility of their club landing such an exciting player, hailing him as the “perfect player” who will be “incredible” when he is under the wing of Jurgen Klopp.
