Leeds United must blow Steven Gerrard out of the water to win the race to sign Harry Wilson on loan this summer.

The Sun claim the Championship giants are keen on signing the Liverpool goal machine in the summer window, but there is fierce interest in him.

The report states new Rangers boss Gerrard has already asked about taking the 21-year-old on loan next season, while Huddersfield and Aston Villa are also keen.

It is no surprise there is such interest in Wilson, given his pedigree, prolific scoring and immense potential.

Liverpool, it seems, are also open to a deal and the Sun report that the Premier League giants “want a loan fee of £250,000 plus penalties if Wilson does not play enough games”.

Talk about snip of the century.

Leeds must push the boat out to land a player Gerrard knows all about from his time at the Liverpool academy, and have the finances to do so.

Wilson is more than just an exciting youngster at one of world football’s elite clubs. He has already proved he can cut it in the uniquely challenging Championship, where little attention is paid to names or background.

Wilson joined Hull on loan in January, scored in his second game and did not look back from there, going on to net seven times from 13 games as well as supplying four assists.

A matchwinner and game changer who operates predominantly on the right flank, he has already played international football, scoring once from his three Wales games.

His calibre is not in doubt, nor is his immense potential.

What is alluring for Leeds is that the cost of the deal is well within their grasp, and the advantage they have over Rangers is their budget is considerably bigger.

For owner Andrea Radrizzani and director of football Victor Orta, it is a no-brainer.

£250,000 is chicken feed for a player who would walk straight into their starting XI, although that sum could rise if he doesn’t play.

Wilson’s record suggests he would play virtually every game for a team like Leeds, who are crying out for matchwinners and goalscorers.
