Liverpool have slapped a £15million price tag on attacker Daniel Sturridge, according to the Telegraph.

The prestigious newspaper claim that the Reds are open to offers for their forward, who earns £120,000-a-week (Source: The Times), but will not part with him on the cheap.

The Telegraph report that as Sturridge has only a year left on his deal, it expires in 2019, then the 28-year-old may opt to stay at the club as he knows he can leave on a free transfer due to the Bosman ruling in a year’s time.

OPINION

According to this report Sturridge is under no illusions that he will struggle for playing time at Anfield in the 2018/19 season due to being low down in the pecking order, so if he stays it will be for all the wrong reasons. The 28-year-old is thought to be attracting interest from Spanish side Sevilla, Turkish giants Fenerbahce and several unnamed European sides and if he wants to regularly play he must jump at their offers. While it’s unlikely that any of them will match his current Reds’ wage it should be worth him taking a significant pay cut in order to get a move that will revive his career. The forward made only six appearances due to injuries while on loan at West Bromwich Albion and soon no club will want him if he doesn’t prove his fitness one way or another. The previously prolific forward has battled with injuries which has been a painful sight to watch and it would be fantastic if he was able to get back to his best even if that didn’t happen at Anfield. However it’s hard to see many clubs being willing to meet the Reds’ £15m demand for the 28-year-old.
