South Korea produced one of the moments of the World Cup so far as they eliminated defending champions Germany with a 2-0 win on Wednesday, and some Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to call for the club to sign goalkeeper Cho Hyun-woo.

The South Koreans still had a slight chance to progress to the knockout stages and did all they could with their two-goal win, but Sweden’s 3-0 victory over Mexico saw the Taegeuk Warriors crash out alongside Die Mannschaft.

Goals from Kim Young-gwon and Tottenham star Son Heung-min sealed the win, but the plaudits also went to Cho, who put in a stellar performance between the sticks for South Korea.

A section of Liverpool fans have now taken to Twitter to call on the club to sign the 26-year-old, who currently plays for Daegu FC in his homeland.

OPINION

There is little doubt that Cho has been in impressive form for South Korea at the World Cup, with his performance against Germany following two solid displays against Mexico and Sweden. The 26-year-old was amazingly not even supposed to start the competition for South Korea, and got his place due to an injury. There will be clubs taking a look at him after his brilliant three displays, but Liverpool should not be one of those teams. World Cup performances can flatter to deceive, and more often than not a player will not turn out to be as good as they looked at the tournament. Liverpool need a sure-fire solution to their goalkeeping problems, and there is no guarantee that Cho is that man.
