Liverpool are ready to open talks with Lazio over potentially signing Thomas Strakosha, according to Il Messaggero.

The Italian newspaper claim the Merseyside giants are preparing an offer for the Albania international as they look to reinforce their goalkeeper rans this summer amid doubts over the futures of current senior pair Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet.

Il Messaggero report that Strakosha is valued at £26million by Lazio after establishing himself as their number one.

OPINION

As things stand, there is more chance of Strakosha arriving at Anfield this summer than his fellow Serie A shot-stopper Alisson, who has been touted as their first choice for much of the year but now appears to be heading to Real Madrid. It appears the Brazilian would prefer a move to Europe’s biggest and most glamorous club, which means Liverpool need to find an alternative of top quality. Strakosha does not have the global renown of Alisson but he was a first choice the Lazio side that finished fifth in the recent Serie A season and lost out to Inter Milan for the final Champions League slot only on goal difference. Aged 23, he is a rising star among keepers. Transfermarkt record the commanding Albanian’s height at 6ft 3in, while observers have been hugely impressed by his shot-stopping and commanding presence since emerging from the ranks at Lazio, who he joined in 2012. Is he an upgrade on Karius and Mignolet? Yes, he certainly is. Neither keeper is good enough for Liverpool and must be bombed out this summer. Strakosha could be a super-smart replacement and the ideal man to grow in the role at Anfield over the coming years.
