Liverpool have joined Arsenal in the hunt for Turkey international and Freiburg centre-back Caglar Soyuncu, according to Turkish Football

The football news website report that the Reds have launched an initial enquiry for the 22-year-old, approaching representatives about his availability this summer.

Turkish Football claim that Liverpool have deployed scouts to watch the 6ft 2in enforcer in action when Turkey play Russia on Tuesday evening, with the player’s agent also set to be present.

It is said that Freiburg value the 22-year-old at £35million.

Good move for Liverpool?

Absolutely.

Soyuncu is one of Europe’s up-and-coming centre-backs, with the young enforcer playing a starring role for Freiburg as they finished in 15th in the Bundesliga this season.

The 22-year-old is a powerful presence at the back, and looks perfectly suited to come and impress in the Premier League with Liverpool.

While £35million may seem a lot for a player who still remains relatively untested, it is still a decent price in today’s market, with Liverpool surely expecting to pay around £50million for a world-class established defender.

Likely to happen?

Arsenal had looked to be in pole position for Soyuncu, but Liverpool entering the race will pose big problems for the Gunners.

The lure of playing for a club that has just played in the Champions League final, while also have the prospect of playing in that competition again next season is huge, and you would think the Reds may easily steal a march on their rivals for the 22-year-old.

However, it is still early days in Liverpool’s interest, and they will have some catching up to do should they decide to launch a bid for the powerful enforcer.
