Liverpool have ‘overall agreed’ a deal to sign Roma goalkeeper Alisson in what is a sensational transfer twist, according to Tutto Mercato Web.

The Italian transfer site claim the Merseyside giants have not given up on landing the Brazil international despite widespread reports in the English media that he is set to join Real Madrid.

Tutto Mercato Web report that the Reds are “working harder and harder” to get their deal done as talks progress with Roma over a £57million transfer this summer, although the player is likely to wait until after the World Cup before deciding his next destination.

OPINION

It would certainly represent a huge turnaround were Liverpool to sneak back into the driving seat to land Alisson amid so many reports that their pursuit is effectively dead in the water. Supporters of the club have come to accept in recent days that there is seemingly no chance of landing the Brazil number one because he is heading to Real Madrid. Tutto Mercato Web suggest otherwise and their claim that Liverpool are working overtime on sealing a mega-money is a stunning one. The sums of money involved – there is talk of a £57million fee – is jawdropping, although less than the £70million other media have been quoting as Roma’s valuation. Is he worth it? Alisson has just had a brilliant season and is still relatively young – he is 26 – in goalkeeper terms. He is very good and should get better. The Brazilian does not have the imposing frame of a Manuel Neuer or Thibaut Courtois but gets around his box quickly and makes brilliant saves in the manner of David de Gea. He would be a brilliant signing if Liverpool could get it done.
