Daniel Sturridge is set to start Liverpool’s pre-season and attempt to fight for his future at the club, according to The Sun.

The newspaper claim that the forward is preparing to be at Anfield when his side return from their break and will attempt to battle his way into Jurgen Klopp’s plans despite being way down the pecking order.

The Sun report that Sturridge has a shortage of options for his next move due to his £120,000-a-week at Anfield potentially stopping him securing a transfer away.

It is believed that while Sturridge’s future at Anfield currently looks uncertain, the attacker isn’t ready to give up just yet.

OPINION

The 28-year-old forward has enjoyed some wonderful times at the Reds, having scored 64 goals in 133 appearances for them, but surely he knows it’s time to move on. Sturridge hardly got a kick of the ball and has tough competition in order to find a way back in to the club’s first-team. As The Sun’s report state that even Danny Ings is ahead of him at the club despite the forward suffering from his own severe injury woes. While it’s admirable that Sturridge is at least attempting to resurrect his Anfield career, it seems very unlikely that he will be successful in his quest. If anything the Reds will no doubt be more keen to get the big-money earner off their books in order to lower their wage bill to cater for new arrivals rocking up Anfield. It seems that the Reds and Sturridge will have to work hard in order to find a new club for him or the forward will have to take a huge pay-cut in order for a another side to take a chance on him.
