Tottenham have made a late approach to sign Liverpool forward Rhian Brewster, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claim the Londoners have enquired about the availability of the 18-year-old even though he has agreed the terms of his first professional contract “in principle” with the Merseysiders.

The Sun report that Arsenal and Spurs are both keen to prise the highly-rated youngster from Anfield after he stalled on a new deal and is still yet to sign with his parent club despite negotiations “ongoing”.

OPINION

Brewster is certainly a young player in huge demand across the globe, which demonstrates his immense promise. Liverpool are convinced they have a rare gem on their hands, and have been working tirelessly on convincing the star of England Under-17s’ World Cup win last year that his future should be at Anfield. The striker was on the verge of a transfer to Germany but widespread reports have stated that is now off the table and he is on the verge of committing to Liverpool. It would be a huge kick in the teeth for the Premier League giants if Brewster, who joined from Chelsea at the age of 14, was to now spurn that first pro deal to return to London, where Tottenham and Arsenal are as eager to land him as the queue of Bundesliga clubs lining up for his signature. Brewster clearly wants a Trent Alexander-style fast-track plan through the ranks and is willing to forego a Liverpool career if he doesn’t think he’ll get it. There will be concern among Anfield top brass until he puts pen to paper with them.
