Stoke City attacking midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri will reportedly join Liverpool after the World Cup – and fans have taken to Twitter to give the potential deal the thumbs-up.
Staffordshire radio station Hitmix 107.5 FM have claimed on their Twitter account that the Merseysiders have triggered the £12.5million release clause in Shaqiri’s Stoke contract.
Hitmix report the Switzerland international will sign a long-term contract and complete a medical at Liverpool following the completion of the World Cup next month.
Shaqiri, 26, was in action for his country on Sunday night as they came from a goal down to draw 1-1 against pre-tournament favourites Brazil in their World Cup opener.
The Premier League player looked Switzerland’s most dangerous player for much of the match and created the equaliser with a pinpoint corner that was headed in by Steven Zuber.
Shaqiri has been linked to Liverpool in recent weeks and is regarded by many as a low-risk signing given his experience of the English top flight and the relatively low cost of his release clause.
Supporters of the Merseysiders have taken to social media to react to the report that he is to undergo a medical, with comments including ‘yes’, ‘nice’ and he will be a ‘great addition’.

Happy with this, a great edition, though I will wait to see him in a shirt with a scarf shaking Klopp’s hand before I get too excited!

For that kind of money its low risk investment. Can turn out a terrific squad player. The team is crying for depth
