Liverpool must let rivals take Fekir risk

|

OPINION

Liverpool must not be sweating over the thought of Nabil Fekir joining Tottenham or Chelsea this summer as Jurgen Klopp will have the last laugh.

The Sun reported on Sunday that Lyon had offered the attacker’s services to Premier League clubs for £66million with Spurs and the Blues alert to his talents.

The Reds appeared to be on the brink of welcoming Fekir to Anfield but his potential £53million move to the club fell through, according to The Sun’s report, due to the club having concerns about his previous knees injuries.

Fekir would have been a celebrated signing if the Reds were successful as he did score 23 goals in 40 appearances in his 2017/18 campaign but that shouldn’t cause anyone to be concerned that he will end up at a Premier League rival.

Klopp is the type of manager to do his due diligence and after being so close to Fekir clearly the plug was pulled on a deal for the right reasons.

The Reds do not want to be the sort of club that gamble huge amounts of money on players that they have any form of doubt about as more of than not a club ends up kicking itself in that scenario.

While the 24-year-old may still do well in the Premier League somewhere else, one way or another Klopp will end up having the last laugh.

This may be a result of him acquiring an even better attacking talent to bolster his ranks or it will be due to his side simply doing better than whatever team Fekir ends up at.

The eccentric German boss has no doubt already considered the possibility of Fekir ending up at another club and even though Fekir’s future appears to have taken a £66million twist, Klopp probably saw it coming.

Therefore while Spurs and Blues supporters may be ready to celebrate getting one over the Reds if their side snap up Fekir maybe they should wait to see how he does before thinking that the Reds won’t be the ones left smiling when all is said and done.
