OPINION

Everyone knows Liverpool are in the market for a new goalkeeper at this point and clubs will drive a hard bargain if the Reds pursue their shot-stoppers.

This seems be the case with Lazio as according to the official website of journalist Alfredo Pedulla the Italian giants are demanding £34.9million for their goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha.

It is believed that Lazio have slapped the huge price tag on the 6ft 3in tall (Transfermarkt) 23-year-old’s head due to the Reds having concrete interest in signing the goalkeeper.

While Strakosha has a bright future in the game and is arguably one of the most promising keepers that the Reds can look at in their hunt for a shot-stopper they can’t pay out £34.9million for him.

Even though Strakosha impressed many during his 53 outings in his 2017/18 campaign,a s he kept 17 clean sheets, he is not worth breaking the bank for.

The colossus shot-stopper has nearly as much to learn about the game as the Reds’ current young goalkeeper Loris Karius, 24, and it seems like a waste of money to invest in another keeper arguably at the same level, especially to that degree.

Karius may have made costly mistakes in the Champions League final but he did show on a regular basis in his other 32 outings of his latest campaign that he has talent.

Therefore Jurgen Klopp should only be spending a fee in the region of £34.9million on a shot-stopper who is definitely better than Karius and Strakosha doesn’t fit the bill.

If the Reds were to meet Lazio’s reported demand for their 23-year-old keeper it would just be a move that would reek of desperation as the Merseyside giants clearly would be agreeing to pay that price just to ensure any old shot-stopper turns up at Anfield this summer.
