Liverpool have agreed personal terms with Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker and he will have a medical with the club soon, according to Sky Sports reporter Fabrizio Romano.

The reliable journalist claimed on his personal Twitter account that a £66million fee has been agreed with Roma for the Reds to wrap up a blockbuster record transfer for a goalkeeper.

It is understood that the Brazil international’s move to Anfield is a “done deal”, however it is yet to be confirmed by either club.

OPINION

Liverpool fans are right to get excited about the signing of Alisson, but shouldn’t feel that this transfer is completely done yet, even if the reports above suggest so. There are still a few things that need to be ironed out before the Brazilian can be announced as a Liverpool player, including going through a substantial medical examination. Remember what happened with Nabil Fekir’s medical? Anything can happen yet and if they do find something wrong in the medical exam, that could plunge the whole deal into doubt. Until the club officially announces his signing, absolutely anything is possible. Also, what does this mean for the futures of current goalkeepers Lorius Karius and Simon Mignolet? Will one of them stay? Or will they get rid of both and give a youth goalkeeper the chance to be a back-up? Even with Alisson in goal and a youth player with no first-team experience as second-choice, that’s better than having two mediocre goalkeepers.
