Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has spoken out about the situation surrounding his goalkeeping duo of Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet, admitting that they cannot be “100% happy” about it.

The Reds made a record-breaking swoop for shot-stopper Allison, who will take the number one spot from Karius – leaving both of the keeper’s futures up in the air.

He was quoted by the Mirror (Saturday July 28, 11:02) as saying: “Can Loris be happy or Simon be 100% happy about the situation? I don’t think so. How can people be happy like that? But it is part of life.”

One of the stoppers is likely to be heading for the exit, with Mignolet being offered a way out of the club, according to the Sun – with Besiktas interested in his services.

The Belgian has fallen down the pecking order since Karius took the number one spot from him last season, but will now fall further down the queue now the Brazilian keeper has arrived at Anfield.

“We don’t need 54 players and 20 goalkeepers,” Klopp continued.

“That’s how it is. But if somebody comes in and says ‘can we have him [Karius or Mignolet] for four pounds’, no of course not.

“They are quality players, all of them.”

OPINION

Karius and Mignolet will undoubtedly be disappointed with how their Liverpool careers have panned out, but that is likely to be expected with the competition for the number one spot being so high. Karius’ mistakes in the Champions League Final obviously cost him from cementing his place in the first team, so it is not surprising that Klopp went and looked elsewhere for another stopper. As for Mignolet, he had a good spell at the club, but his form has dipped since, and it is the ideal time to move on with Besiktas interested. Klopp is in the position where he would like to keep all three keepers on Merseyside, but that is just not possible when they all want to be playing regular first team football. Fingers crossed that they can get the keeper situation sorted before the window slams shut, otherwise the duo may face a long period of time on the bench – exactly where they do not want to be.
