Liverpool are over the moon and have high hopes for new signing Bobby Duncan after snapping him up from league rivals Manchester City, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper reports on their website that the Reds are hopeful of what the 5’7″ (source: Transfermarkt) frontman can do now he has joined the club, after he made the move to Anfield for an undisclosed fee.

The 17-year-old forward refused a professional contract with the Premier League champions and opted to join boss Jurgen Klopp on Merseyside instead, as he felt that staying at City would limit his opportunities to pave his way into the senior team.

He mustered a highly impressive tally of 66 goals in 2016, alerting Liverpool to his services.

OPINION

The signing of Bobby Duncan from Manchester City has largely gone under the radar due to his age, but what a coup Klopp has bagged himself. Netting 66 goals is the type of goal scoring form that will transform the Reds into an unstoppable force, but that will have to wait until Duncan develops and earns his place in the senior squad. However, it is no wonder that Liverpool have high hopes for him, as he has achieved a lot for someone of his age – netting 66 goals is a seriously outstanding statistic. He is capable of going on to great things and establishing himself as a top-class striker for the Reds in the future, when he will have bound to have improved.  Turning down a professional contract is a major blow to Manchester City, but what will be their loss will be Liverpool’s gain. It will be exciting to see in the next few years whether the youngster will live up to the hopes of his new club.
