Liverpool have agreed a deal with Besiktas to loan out goalkeeper Simon Mignolet with an option to make the deal permanent, according to Fotomac

The Turkish newspaper, as translated by Turkish Football, report that Mignolet is now set to make the move to Turkey with the agreement to be finalised within days.

Fotomac claim that Liverpool were looking to sell senior star Mignolet permanently, but the Istanbul-based side were only interested in a loan deal for the stopper.

OPINION

Mignolet was always expected to leave Liverpool this summer after he was ousted as the Reds’ number one following a resurgence in form for Loris Karius. His situation at Anfield has become even more dire this summer after the arrival of Alisson for a world-record fee, with Mignolet set to go into the season as the club’s third-choice stopper. That was obviously not a situation that the Belgium international was happy with, and this exit should allow him to gain first-team football once again. It is obviously a step down for the 30-year-old stopper, and disappointingly, Besiktas cannot qualify for the Champions League next term following their fourth-placed finish in the Super Lig in 2017/18. He should hopefully. get some action in the Europa League however, with Besiktas set to go through qualifying for that tournament. From Liverpool’s point of view this is a sensible move, and while they did not get the permanent exit they wanted, that will surely come next summer.
