Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo is wanted by Middlesbrough for a potential loan move ahead of next season, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper reports on their website that the 5’9″ (source: Transfermarkt) flyer – who is on around £10,000-a-week (Spotrac) –  is being hunted by the Championship club in time for the next campaign, in order to boost their attacking options.

The Daily Mail report that the 21-year-old is currently on the Reds’ pre-season tour after spending last term on loan at Fulham, where he played 24 times in all competitions.

Ojo has only ever made eight appearances for Liverpool since joining the senior squad in 2015.

OPINION

Joining a Championship club on loan for the season is undoubtedly a good move for Ojo’s career, but Liverpool were obviously hoping to cash in on him rather than loan him out. Offloading him on a permanent basis would mean that they would be able to recoup some cash, which would help considerably after their spending spree this summer. However, should he go out on loan to Boro, then the Reds will surely hope that he has impressed them enough for them to want him permanently. Right now, their only option of getting rid of him is on loan, unless another club wants to get in on the act. Boro evidently do not want to take the risk of acquiring him permanently just yet, and are instead allowing him to show what he can do on a temporary basis. Liverpool will be hoping he performs well if he goes out on loan, otherwise they may face a more difficult task next season to get him off the books when he returns.
