Liverpool winger Ryan Kent is inching closer to a temporary exit after the club struck a season-long loan deal with Rangers, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster report that the Glasgow side have won the race to sign the 21-year-old wide man, who is set to become Steven Gerrard’s tenth signing of the summer at Ibrox.

Sky Sports claim that Kent is set to spend the whole 2018/19 season on loan under Gerrard, with Rangers beating several other clubs including Blackburn Rovers to his signature.

OPINION

Rumours have grown in the past few days to suggest that Rangers were stepping up their pursuit of Kent, and it looks like the Light Blues have got their man. There have been several clubs linked with a move for the 21-year-old, who spent last season on loan with Freiburg and Bristol City, but Gerrard looks to have won this race. The lure of playing under the Liverpool legend may well have been a big factor in Kent’s decision to head up north, and he is set for an exciting season in the Scottish top-flight. The Gerrard revolution will be watched by millions around the world, and Kent will now be hoping to play a big part in Rangers’ season. From Rangers’ point-of-view, their decision to step up their interest in Kent may have something to do with their lacklustre attacking performances in their 2-0 aggregate win over Shkupi in Europa League qualifying. They will be hoping Kent can help to remedy that and get them firing before the start of the season.
