Newcastle have rejected a £25million bid from West Ham for their talented centre-back Jamaal Lascelles, according to Sky Sports.
That doesn’t come as any surprise. Lascelles is a vital part of the Newcastle side and £25million is a derisory offer for the player, who’s still got five years left on his current contract.
However, West Ham, along with everyone else, know that Newcastle don’t have much money to spend, and have a boss who’s happy to try to turn anything and everyone into more profit for himself.
That doesn’t mean he’ll sell cheap. But he’s got history of selling and Jurgen Klopp could turn that to his advantage and make a move that will certainly get Lascelle’s attention.
The 24-year-old is also on the Everton radar and he’ll quickly become of interest for much bigger clubs.
The 24-year-old flies under the radar at Newcastle, who struggled to a tenth-placed Premier League finish last season.
But the former England Under-21 international, reportedly on £40k-a-week, is unfortunate that he’s not in the reckoning for a place in the senior international squad.
And his career would definitely be helped by a move to a bigger club.
Liverpool are in desperate need of a centre-back, despite Dejan Lovren’s resurgence since Virgil van Dijk joined.
And a partnership of Lascelles and Van Dijk at the back for Liverpool would be a dream pairing.
Klopp should go all-out to make it happen this summer.
