A prominent Sky Sports journalist has claimed that Liverpool hold one big advantage over Premier league rivals Chelsea in the battle for Brazil World Cup star keeper Alisson.

Italian Angelo Mangiante has stated that both sides are locked in talks with Alisson’s agent over a proposed £62million move from Roma.

However, if it comes down to money, Liverpool have the edge as he claims they are willing to offer more than Chelsea.

Mangiante made the claim on his personal Twitter page on Monday morning.

It’s not all good news for Liverpool though.

Mangiante also claimed that new Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri sees Alisson as the best goalkeeper to replace Thibaut Courtois if his current number one leaves this summer.

OPINION

This is good news on the face of it for Liverpool. If it comes down to the highest bidder for Roma, then it looks like Liverpool will hold the upper hand. They’re prepared to pay more money and they can offer Champions League football on top. If Roma decide where he’s going to go this summer then these two factors could swing it in Liverpool’s favour. However, Alisson and his agent will also have a lot of say in any deal and he could still prefer a move to London. A lot will depend on Courtois now, with the Chelsea keeper set to start a transfer merry-go-round if he does make a move this summer. One way or another though, it looks like Alisson will be lining up in the Premier League next month. We’re going to go out on a limb and say that we think that Liverpool will have a new number one keeper by the time the season kicks off. Whether that’s Alisson or someone else reamins to be seen. But we can’t see Jurgen Klopp committing to at least the first half of the season with just Loris Karius.
