Liverpool have revealed that winger Sadio Mane will switch shirts to become the club’s new number 10 next season, and some fans have taken to Twitter to react to the announcement.

As reported on the club’s official website, Senegal international Mane will vacate his number 19 jersey to take up Philippe Coutinho’s old shirt following his move to Barcelona in January.

The number 10 jersey has been worn by the likes of John Barnes, Michael Owen and Luis Garcia during the Premier League era, and fans will be hoping Mane can continue his brilliant form for the club in his new shirt.

The Senegalese speedster has also been tipped to sign a new deal soon, with Bleacher Report claiming that was to be the case this summer.

Some supporters have taken to Twitter to react to the news, with many seemingly delighted at the switch, with others latching onto the possibility of him signing that new deal soon.

OPINION

This is a small but significant change for Mane, who has some big boots to fill in the Liverpool number 10 shirt. The Senegal international has been an underrated part of the Reds attack since he joined from Southampton in 2016, and that has now been recognised by the club. Fans are clearly over the moon with the change, with many acknowledging the contribution that Mane has made since his switch two years ago. The multiple calls for a new contract will surely be heard by the club, who will want to tie Mane down to a new long-term deal soon enough.
