Everton are now leading the hunt for Barcelona and Colombia centre-back Yerry Mina as Liverpool sit out the chase, according to a reliable journalist.

David Anderson, a reporter for the Mirror, stated on his Twitter feed that it was, in fact, Everton who were and could be set to make an offer for the 6ft 3in (source: Transfermarkt) powerhouse.

A previous article from the Mirror revealed that the Reds were showing an interest in the Barcelona enforcer who had impressed for Colombia where he partnered Davinson Sanchez throughout their time in the World Cup finals.

With Virgil Van Dijk a first choice in Jurgen Klopp’s rearguard, there continue to be concerns over Dejan Lovren as his partner, who is thought to be never too far away from making an error.

OPINION:

If this is true then it is possibly the best news that Liverpool supporters could have received. Mina has struggled to get into the Barcelona first team since his arrival at the Nou Camp only in January on a contract until 2023. But in the five appearances that the 23-year-old did make for the La Liga giants, he managed to tally just two clean sheets and conceded eight goals in that time, which included a five-goal hammering on behalf on Levante in the penultimate game of the season. It was during this game that Mina was brutally exposed by his opponents and a game where he was caught out positionally, mentally, and physically, unable to perform even the basics of the game to a reasonable degree. Yes, Liverpool fans will be breathing a sigh of relief that they have dodged a bullet here and deflected it onto their Merseyside rivals instead – even better!
