OPINION

Carragher is not the first pundit to heap praise on Van Dijk, and he certainly will not be the last. He deserves all the compliments he can get, with his commanding presence in Liverpool’s back four earning him an army of fans. He will be integral in the Reds’ title bid this season, and it is very unlikely that he will be usurped from his first team role any time soon, barring any injury. His strength and power are elements of his game that can strike fear into their opponents, and he is only going to get better and better now Liverpool have got the form to compete for honours this season. The Dutchman’s ability to go in for headers, especially from set-pieces, will certainly be the difference for Jurgen Klopp’s side in this campaign. Teams can threaten from these opportunites, and Liverpool cannot afford to let them take these, as every point counts. Van Dijk has the ability to establish himself in the heart of the defence for the forseeable future if he continues this wonderful run of form.
