Liverpool’s big spending this summer has been viewed as a huge positive by the vast majority of people involved with the club, as Jurgen Klopp and his team look to challenge for trophies once again in 2018/19.

Among the few who may not view it in the same way are those Liverpool fringe players who were hoping for a first-team shot in the coming campaign.

The path to the first-team has now become far more crowded, and the unfortunate effect of that will be the likely departure of several young players before Thursday’s deadline.

Among that number is Spanish midfielder Pedro Chirivella, who has made just five senior appearances for the Reds since arriving from Valencia in 2013.

The 21-year-old has spent time abroad in loan spells with Eredivisie sides Willem II and the Go Ahead Eagles, but is yet to really make an impact at his parent club.

Unfortunately for him, these new arrivals look likely to force him out of Anfield for good this summer, and he has already turned down a move to Denmark with Rosenborg.

However, a perfect move has now emerged for the youngster, and both the club and Chirivella must do all they can to seal the transfer before the end of the window.

As reported by Goal, Celtic are now lining up a swoop for the 21-year-old, who is keen on the thought of reuniting with former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers in Glasgow.

The Hoops are now in pole position to secure Chirivella, with Championship sides Swansea and Nottingham Forest also in the hunt.

Celtic are clearly the best option for Chirivella, with the player knowing Rodgers already from their time at Liverpool, where he handed the youngster his debut in 2015.

The Hoops also offer Chirivella the biggest platform to prove himself, with Champions League football a possibility and 60,000 fans in attendance at Parkhead every home game.

Quite simply, Chirivella could not hope for much more than a move to Celtic, and Liverpool must now reward him for his time at the club by helping him towards Glasgow.

The Reds are known to want a buy-back clause included in any deal, so they will be rewarded for this if Chirivella succeeds in Glasgow.

All in all it is the perfect last-gasp move for all parties, and Liverpool must do all in their power to make it a reality in the coming 48 hours or so.
