Liverpool aim to resist any bids that come in for Nathaniel Clyne as he has earned a place in Jurgen Klopp’s plans, according to the London Evening Standard.

The newspaper claim that it was thought that the 27-year-old could look to leave Anfield this summer in order to guarantee that he would be getting regular playing time in his 2018/19 campaign.

The London Evening Standard report that Clyne, whose current deal sees him rake in £70,000-a-week (Source: Total Sportek), has given no indication that he is keen to depart the Reds and that Klopp as well as Michael Edwards are now inclined to resist selling the player.

It is believed that only a significant offer could test the Reds’ resolve about keeping the right-back as the coaching staff now believe he is back to his best after his recent injury.

OPINION

Well this is good news but it’s odd that it would be believed that Clyne wasn’t confident of regaining his place back in the Reds’ team if he delivered the performances he has capable of. The 27-year-old was rarely seen in his 2017/18 campaign due to a back injury which allowed him to feature only five times but ahead of getting injured, he was a key part of the team. Trent Alexander-Arnold may have took full advantage of Clyne being absent to make the position of right-back his own but this no doubt will motivate Clyne to bump the youngster out of the team, now he is back fit again. As Klopp, according to his report, is meant to have been impressed with the defender’s attitude and fitness during pre-season then there is no reason for him to be staring at the exit door. Clyne was starting to look like one of the best full-backs in the Premier League ahead of his spell on the sidelines and the Reds would be foolish to cash in on him.
