Liverpool will listen to offers for defender Ragnar Klavan and he could leave before the end of the month, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The regional newspaper claim that the 32-year-old centre-back, who earns £55,000-a-week (Source: Total Sportek), is keen to secure regular playing time at a club.

The Liverpool Echo report that Jurgen Klopp isn’t actively looking to move Klavan on as he believes he is a model professional but knows he has centre-back cover in the form of youngster Nat Phillips as well as Joe Gomez.

OPINION

This could be a risky decision by Klopp as the Reds aren’t exactly swimming in centre-back options. The Echo’s report claims that the defender could end up staying at Anfield in order to remain a useful member of Klopp’s squad if a decent offer doesn’t emerge but clearly the player himself might be unhappy at that scenario. While Klavan may get a few games here and there due to other centre-backs being unavailable for whatever reasons, he won’t get regular playing time at the club. It’s understandable that the veteran defender at this point in his career wants to be regularly kicking a ball rather than stuck in the stands or on the bench watching his side excel without him. Given that Klavan impressed in a few of his displays for the Reds’ last season and has tons of experience in the game, then it’s hard not to imagine a side coming in for him and submitting a worthwhile offer. However if he ends up staying at the club then perhaps he will just have to put up with being cover until January when he can try to secure exit from Anfield once again.
