A section of Liverpool fans have been left divided on Twitter after Fabinho’s performance in their pre-season friendly against Torino last night (7 August).

The 6″2 [Transfermarkt] enforcer had the opportunity to put the Reds 1-0 up after stepping up to take a penalty, which he slammed wide to keep the game at a stalemate.

Liverpool ended up winning the game 3-1, thanks to goals from Daniel Sturridge, Roberto Firmino and Georginio Wijnaldum.

This was the Reds’ last pre-season match before they start their Premier League campaign against West Ham on Sunday, and Fabinho’s performance last night left a section of the Liverpool fans split. These comments included “really don’t think Fabinho will be a regular” and “Fabinho as a last resort centre-back is quite reassuring.”

OPINION

Fabinho’s performance last night has certainly left a section of Liverpool fans divided based on these tweets. Some are saying that he had a solid performance, others have decided to criticise him and say that he will not be a regular under boss Jurgen Klopp. Fabinho is a natural defensive midfielder and he had to play half of the game as a centre-back, which of course is out of position for him – any player operating in an unfamiliar role are never going to have the game of their lives. As one fan said, missing a penalty does not mean he is bad player – he had a 100% record at Monaco after all.
