Liverpool are in talks with Borussia Dortmund over a loan deal for striker Divock Origi, according to ESPN.

The sports broadcaster reports on their website that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wants to ship the rarely-used forward out on a permanent basis, but Dortmund want to take the 23-year-old on a loan first with a view to a permanent deal.

The Reds are said to value Origi at £27million, but the Bundesliga are hoping to reach an agreement for a loan, particularly as the Belgium international has fallen down the pecking order at Anfield thanks to the likes of Mo Salah.

The young frontman, who is part of the first team setup at Anfield, did not feature in either squad to face West Ham United and Crystal Palace in the opening two matches of the season.

OPINION

The news that Liverpool are in talks with the Bundesliga side will be great news for Origi himself. This season, he is unlikely to get a look-in with the first team, and the fact he did not feature in either match day squad for the Reds’ first two Premier League games of the season does not bode well for his future at the club. Moving to a team like Borussia Dortmund – who Jurgen Klopp used to manage – will help Origi develop as a player by getting the regular game time he needs. He would just be sitting on the bench at Liverpool at the very most this term, which is not fair on a player who is still young and wants to be out on the pitch. Hopefully a deal can be struck before the deadline on August 31st, and that Origi can potentially impress to land him a permanent move to the German club.
