Liverpool are ready to hand defender Andy Robertson a new contract that would see him earn £60,000-a-week at the club, according to the Daily Mirror.

The national newspaper claim that contract talks are planned and the Reds hierarchy are confident that terms will quickly be agreed with the 24-year-old left-back who is expected to be a key player for the club this season.

The Daily Mirror report that Jurgen Klopp and his technical staff have moved quickly to extend his stay at Anfield by having these plans to almost double his current wage despite him only signing a deal 13 months ago upon joining.

OPINION

While Robertson may have only signed a Reds contract a little over a year go, it’s clear that his performances warrant him getting a lucrative reward. The 24-year-old was in sensational form in his 2017/18 campaign and establish himself as a guaranteed starter at the club by consistently delivering the goods. Robertson given his age and the fact he appears to be constantly improving, will clearly only get better as he continues to pick up experienced while playing for the Reds. The left-back has already made a good start to his 2018/19 campaign despite his side only playing one game so far, as he registered one assist and helped his side keep a clean sheet during the 4-0 annihilation of West Ham last weekend. Hopefully this report is accurate as not only does it suggest that the Merseyside giants are making a smart decision to tie Robertson to the club as long as possible, it implies that it will be relatively easy to get him to put pen to paper on a new contract.
